4x800m Relay Team Punches Tickets to Nationals

LA VERNE, Calif. The Cal State San Marcos women's indoor track & field team is sending its 4x800m relay team to the NAIA Indoor National Championship after the squad put up an "A" standard time on Saturday at the La Verne Invitational.The team of Cristen Lane, Salena Gallardo, Charlotte Kuzminsky and Tina Girolamo ran 9:41.66, nearly four seconds under the "A" standard requirement of 9:45.00.High jumper Melissa Olmos jumped 1.63m, just .02 meters away from hitting the "A" standard. However, she bested the "B" standard of 1.62m, meaning, Olmos will be included in a pool of student-athletes who could potentially compete in the high jump at the indoor national championships, depending on the amount of athletes from across the NAIA that hit the "A" standard.Michelle Fekete took first place in the long jump, posting a distance of 4.90m. She also won the triple jump with a distance of 10.63m.The 4x400m relay team of Kuzminsky, Genevieve Grigore, Jessica Toliver and Ayana White ran 4:06.70, just a second higher than the NAIA "B" standard.Brittany Hollie ran 9.38 in the 60m hurdles, just .23 seconds off the "A" mark.CSUSM takes on the Soka Invitational next week in Aliso Viejo on Saturday, February 14.
