Rodriguez, Werley Highlight Day One of Bryan Clay Invitational

Comments

AZUSA, Calif. Junior Natalie Rodriguez and senior Raelyn Werley posted two of the fastest 5000m times in program history for the Cal State San Marcos women's track & field team to kick off day one of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday. Rodriguez ran a 5000m personal best 16:49.28, the third-fastest mark in program history, to earn her second NCAA Division II provisional qualifier of the year. She ran the 1500m provisional standard at the California Collegiate Invitational earlier this month. Today's mark shaved 10.64 seconds off of her previous best and is the second-fastest in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this year. Werley also posted a personal best in the 5000m, registering a time of 17:05.74, the fifth-fastest in CSUSM history and achieves the NCAA Division II provisional standard. It is the second time this season that Werley has topped the provisional standard in the 5000m, previously hitting the mark at last month's Oxy Distance Carnival. However, as Candidacy Year Three members of NCAA Division II, the Cougars are not eligible to compete at national championships. For more, visit CSUSMCougars.com.
