CSUSM Ready for CCAA Championship at Home

Cal State San Marcos will host the 2021 CCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday on its new Championship Course on campus. The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 10 a.m. The awards ceremony will take place shortly after at approximately 11:15 a.m. RACE 6 | CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Date Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 Race Start Times Women's 6K Invite - 9 a.m. Men's 8K Invite - 10 a.m. Location San Marcos, Calif. Course Map CSUSM Championship Course Live Scoring Finished Results Live Video CCAA Network COVID-19 Policy Fans are required to wear a mask at all times regardless of vaccination status. Immediately following the race, spectators are asked to socialize with student-athletes in the parking lot. CCAA CHAMPIONSHIP BREAKDOWN Cal State San Marcos will be hosting the conference championships for the first since joining the CCAA in 2015. The races will be held on campus with the start and finish at Mangrum Track & Field. Chico State has won 12 consecutive CCAA Championships dating back to 2008. As a team, CSUSM placed sixth with 135 points at the 2019 CCAA Championships. Chico State tallied 23 points with Cal State East Bay coming in second with 81. CSUSM's top runner of 2021, Renee Laurenzana, placed 28th in the 2019 race. Natalie Rodriguez is CSUSM's top finisher in the CCAA Championships in program history, claiming runner-up honors in 2017. CSUSM's best finish at the CCAA Championships was also in 2017 when the Cougars claimed second place (78 points) behind Chico State (37). THE OLSEN FILE Head coach Torrey Olson begins his fourth season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018. In his first two seasons at the helm of the men's and women's cross country programs, the men's team claimed second in back-to-back appearances of the CCAA Championships while the women earned third and sixth. Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors. Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art. In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College. A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary's College (2012).
