Men Take 4th, Women 6th in California Collegiate Challenge

LA JOLLA, Calif. The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams took fourth and sixth place, respectively, at the California Collegiate Challenge hosted by UC San Diego on Saturday at Triton Track & Field Stadium.The Cougars scored 60 points on the men's side and 43 points on the women's.Brittany Hollie highlighted the women's outing by running 14.66 in the 100-meter hurdles, well under the NAIA "A" standard of 14.80. She became the sixth student-athlete on the women's team to qualify for nationals.Michelle Fekete scored 11 points for the Cougars, five in the long jump (4.89m) and six in the triple (10.53).Kelly Skvarna jumped 1.48m in the high jump and scored one point with a 15.94 in the 100h.The 4x100 relay team ran 19.15 while the 4x400m relay team posted 4:08.28.Jason Bandong earned 10 points for the men's team by winning the 400-meter hurdles in 55.08.Michael Anastasia accounted for the most points for the men's team, scoring six in the triple jump with a mark of 13.08 meters and notching five in the long jump with a leap of 6.23m.Kyle Johnson finished with a total of 10 points on the day, scoring eight with a second-place finish in the 110 high hurdles and two with a time of 11.50 in the 100m (11.50). Jordan Lucas scored five with an 11.02 in the 100m.Throwers Josh Maffei and Patrick Holstrom both posted NAIA "B" standard throws in the javelin with tosses of 47.75 and 47.74, respectively. Maffie scored nine points on the afternoon.
